ABOUT THE SHELAGH CLUETT TRUST
In her will, in addition to a sum of money, Shelagh Cluett left much of her artwork and associated collection to Sacha Craddock, Charles Garrad, Dr. Virginia Whiles and Christopher Yetton and asked them, in their capacity as Charity Trustees, to archive and exhibit the work and distribute the residue of the funds either by establishing a charity in her name and/or by passing it on to other charities.
This process is now well under way.
Following last year’s successful show at Chelsea Space and Virginia Whiles’ fascinating ‘Le Cabinet de Curiosites de Mademoiselle Cluett’ at The Chelsea Library we are very pleased to announce that there have been two important developments for the trust in the past few months.
The Shelagh Cluett Archive is now resident at The Henry Moore Institute in Leeds, where it will be permanently available to everyone to study from now on.
The Institute is putting on a show of Shelagh’s sculpture and drawing entitled ‘Drawing in Space’ from 1.12.11 - 11.3.12.They will be adding some of Shelagh’s sculpture to their permanent collection following the show.
Also this summer four sculptures and four drawings have been taken into the Tate collection. They plan to show these works, and probably others too, within the next two years.
Some of Shelagh’s collection of books are now available in the libraries at Chelsea School of Art and at Iniva.
There are plans afoot for more outings for the ‘Cabinet de Curiosites’ and we are working on a proposal for a show of some digital prints in India. The publication ‘Le Cabinet de Curiosites de Madamoiselle Cluett’ is available from Virginia Whiles (vwhiles@yahoo.co.uk ) for £10 + £2.50 pp.
We will soon be setting up a small biannual travel scholarship in Shelagh’s name to enable an artist from Britain to visit South Asia or vice versa.
Shelagh’s works are now safely stored, and the complete sculpture catalogue is available on this website. Digital works and drawings can be accessed via The Henry Moore Institute.
We are keen that the work should be seen, so if you have an interest in exhibiting please don’t hesitate from getting in touch.
